Wisconsin City Seeks to be Green Jobs “Epicenter”

Development of green technology may be one of the keys to getting the economy back on track. One Wisconsin city is banking on wind energy to be a major economic driver for its community. In a story from today’s Wisconsin Rapids Daily Tribune, Energy Composites Corp. is looking to make Wisconsin Rapids the green jobs “epicenter” of the state. The company plans to break ground on a wind energy components plant next month after acquiring 54 acres of land from the city. The plant will bring 400 jobs to Wisconsin Rapids and city officials are planning wind energy development agreement with the company. The story also notes that state and local officials are working on standards to regulate the budding wind energy industry, with proposals expected to reach the state legislature soon.

Green technology development is a win-win, producing a cleaner environment and robust economic climate.  Wisconsin, with its natural resources and world-class research universities, is an ideal location for green technology growth.  Wired Wisconsin is encouraged to see the city of Wisconsin Rapids working with the business community to create “green collar” jobs.
