What kinds of technology does your organization utilize?
Other than the computers, printers and smart phones that most of us are familiar with and use daily we use “test computers” to run diagnostics on customer computers. We also use diagnostic hardware and software to pin point problems. We use imaging software to backup a hard drive. This will make an exact copy of the hard drive. Most of the equipment is specialized software or hardware that enables us to do an efficient job. We have an extensive array of software utilities that also help with this.
What technological challenges does your organization currently face?
The biggest challenge is the language barrier between regular English and “tech jargon”. It is not only a challenge to explain a computer problem in plain English, it is also challenging to explain why using strong passwords or updating antivirus software is a good idea. Most people do not need to know what a batch file is, but most people should know how to protect their most private information online.
What, if any, technology policy issues are of importance to your organization?
Computer security is increasingly important as more and more people are using their computers to do their banking and storing of their personal information such as tax files. In the interest of “going green” more and more people and businesses are going paperless making computer security an often overlooked necessity.
We believe educating the consumer on the importance of internet security is the most important issue. No amount of software or hardware will be able to stop the problems that viruses and hackers present unless the consumer has the knowledge to implement security properly.
How does your organization see the future of technology in Wisconsin?
We see more households getting access to broadband internet, therefore, increasing the need for information security.
